Parshwanath Jayanti 2021: Lord Parshvanath is considered to be the 23rd Tirthankar of Jainism, who took birth on earth as a seed of revolution in the midst of ignorance, darkness, pomp, and ritual. He was born a thousand years after Arishtanemi, in the Ikshvaku dynasty, on the tenth day of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Paush, in the city of Varanasi in Visakha Nakshatra. Their body color is blue and the symbol is considered to be a snake. This year in 2021, the birth anniversary of Lord Parshwanath will be celebrated on 29th December, Wednesday.

- Lord Parshvanath is the 23rd Tirthankara of Jainism. Your father’s name was Raja Ashwasen and mother’s name was Vama. Father was the king of Varanasi. Early life was spent as a prince.
- He was born on the Ekadashi of Paush Krishna Paksha in Varanasi. His birth is believed to be around 872 BC.
- In his youth, he was married to Prabhavati, the princess of Kusasthal country.
- Parshvanath left home at the age of thirty and became a sanyasi. He took initiation on Krishna Ekadashi of Paush month. After doing severe penance for 83 days, on the 84th day of Chaitra Krishna Chaturthi, he attained Kaivalya knowledge under the ‘Ghataki tree’ on the Sammed mountain. Nirvana took place on the Parasnath mountain on the seventh day of Shravan Shukla. This mountain is called Sammed Shikhar. This shrine is located in the Madhuban region in the Giridih district of Jharkhand state, India.
- According to Jain religions, your symbol – snake, chaitya tree – dhava, yaksha – matang, yakshini – kushmadi. Their body color is blue while their symbol is snake. The name of the Yaksha of Parshvanath was Parshva and the name of the Yakshini was Padmavati Devi.

- Parshvanath was a truly historical figure. Before him, the stream of Shramana religion was not recognized among the general public. It was from Parshvanath that the Shramans got their recognition.
- After Kaivalya taught Chaturyam (Truth, Ahimsa, Asteya, Aparigraha). After attaining knowledge, you propagated your thoughts and ideas for seventy years and left your body at the age of one hundred.
- Parshvanath established the four Ganas or Sanghas. Each Gana worked under a Ganadhar. The number of his gandharas was 10. Aryadatta Swami was his first Ganadhar. Men and women were given equal importance among his followers. Suparshva and Chandraprabha were born in Kashi. Sarnath is famous as Singhpur in Jain-Agam texts. It was here that Shreyansnath, the 11th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born and propagated his non-violence religion.
- The temple built on the site of the birthplace of Parshvanath is situated near the palace of Vijayanagaram in Bhelupur locality. They are identified in the sculptures on the basis of the umbrellas of three, seven and eleven snakes above the head. There are many Jain temples of Parshvanath in Bhadaini, Bhelupur and Maidagin in Kashi.
