8 अप्रैल 1929 को शहीद भगत सिंह और बटुकेश्वर दत्त ने दिल्ली असेंबली में बम फेंक कर गिरफ्तारी दी थी। जिसके बाद दोनों को अंग्रेजी हकूमत ने जेल में डाल दिया था। अंग्रेजी सरकार ने भगत सिंह और बटुकेश्वर दत्त पर मुकदमा चलाया। जिसके बाद साजिशों के तहत 23 मार्च 1931 को ब्रिटिश सरकार ने भगत सिंह, राजगुरु और सुखदेव को फांसी देकर शहीद कर दिया।

आज भी देश के नौजवान इन शहीदों के बताए रास्तों पर चलकर देश के प्रति अपना कर्त्तव्य निभाते हैं। जेल में रहते हुए भगत सिंह जी ने अपने पिता को कई पत्र लिखे। जिनमें से कुछ को इस लेख के माध्यम से आपके सामने पेश कर रहे हैं।

आदरणीय पिताजी
वंदे मातरम !
हमें पुलिस हिरासत से 22 अप्रैल को दिल्ली जेल भेज दिया गया है। 7 मई से जेल में सुनवाई शुरू होने वाली है। करीब एक महीने में सारा ड्रामा खत्म हो जाएगा। ज्यादा चिंता करने की जरूरत नहीं है। मुझे पता चला कि आप यहां आए थे और एक वकील वगैरह से बात की थी। लेकिन कोई व्यवस्था नहीं हो सकी।

मुझे अगले दिन कपड़े मिले। मुलाकात अब आपके आने वाले दिन ही संभव होगी। वकील आदि की कोई विशेष आवश्यकता नहीं है। हां एक-दो विषयों पर वकील से सलाह-मशव्वरा करना था, लेकिन छोड़िये वो कोई जरूरी नहीं। आप ज्यादा तकलीफ न उठाएं। अगर मुझे मिलने आना हो तो अकेले ही आएं। माता जी को साथ मत लाएं।

बेबे जी मुझे मिलकर रोने लग जाएंगे और मुझे भी उन्हें दुखी देखकर परेशानी होगी। घर का सारा हाल आपसे मिलने के बाद ही पता चलेगा। हां, अगर हो सके तो गीता रहस्य, नैपोलियन की जीवन गाथा पुस्तक लेते आएं। यह किताबें आपकों मेरी पुस्तकों के संग्रह में मिल जाएंगी। अंग्रेजी के कुछ नॉवल लेते आइएगा।

वो शायद आपको द्वारका दास पुस्तकालय से मिल जाएंगे। बेबे जी, मामी जी, माता जी (दादी) और चाची जी को हाथ जोड़कर प्रणाम। कुलबीर, कुलतार सिंह को प्यार। बड़े बापू के चरणों में नमस्ते।

इस समय जेल में में पुलिस हमारे साथ बहुत अच्छा व्यवहार कर रही है। आप किसी प्रकार के बारे में चिंता न करें। मुझे आपका पता नहीं मालूम इसलिए मैं इस पते पर लिख रहा हूं।
