Future Innovations in TWS: How Brands Plan to Tackle Issues Like Battery life

The advent of True Wireless Stereo dates back roughly seven years ago when a Japanese firm introduced the first TWS earphones. Over the years, TWS has swiftly climbed the popularity chart owing to its ergonomic design, superior sound quality and ease of usage, but there still remain a few issues such as short battery lifespan that hold back its full potential.

As the segment continues to grow stronger, it is a pertinent question as to how the manufacturers plan to resolve the bottleneck. Hence, we spoke with a few industry leaders from across audio and lifestyle consumer tech streams to find out what the future holds for the revolutionary TWS technology. Here’s who said what:

Crossbeats

Abhinav Agarwal, co-founder, Crossbeats says, “The audio and wearable industry is advancing tremendously in the TWS segment, with noise-cancelling technology being the prime catalyst. While evolving noise-cancelling modes and technologies, such as Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation, switchable ANC, Environment Noise Cancellation etc, ensure high-quality stereo, it further makes room for battery optimization.

If there can be preset equalizer settings that can control the volume levels to not be too loud, then there can be an extension of battery playtime, considering that louder the music, the more the battery it consumes. The near future innovations may include retention of a good design factor that can house a larger battery, thereby enabling a better way to tackle the issue of short playtime.”

Pebble

True Wireless Stereo or TWS is one of the most significant innovations in the audio segment in the recent past. It’s become a must have feature in the audio segment, but there are a few shortcomings that cannot be overlooked, such as tackling the issue of battery life.

At Pebble however, we keep innovating and making some smart tweaks to deliver the best for our customers. With every new product we try to use denser batteries to enhance battery life without increasing the size of the earpods or the charging case by a lot.”, says Komal Agarwal, co-founder, Pebble.

ZOOOK

Battery issue is nothing new in the tech industry. While an international giant had to offer heavily discounted battery replacement to its phone users, another had to face flaming debacle. Most TWS-enabled devices case tiny battery cells, which are subject to a charge and shorter deplete cycle. Though advancements are being made to eliminate the lacunae with regard to increasing battery sizes, fasting charging features etc, much can also be done when it comes to usage.

Keep your TWS disconnected and switched off, instead of putting it on stand-by mode. This saves the battery life of earpods in the long run, which is usually 2-3 years. For regular use as well, it saves the battery as most TWS can run between 15-45 hours on a single charge. Hence, there is no need to charge repeatedly or bother about running out of power” he added Achin Gupta, Country Head-India, ZOOOK.

Quantum Hi-Tech

It is always a race between higher power consuming innovation and improvement in battery technology. Active Noise Cancelling or ANC for instance consumes battery at a much rapid rate, but it offers superior performance and significant improvement in the user experience. To strike the right balance in this regard, we are focusing on constant innovation to achieve higher energy density in batteries that power TWS.

Such innovations make the process of incorporating technologies like ANC faster into the consumer usable devices. Talking about the future of TWS, it must be reiterated that battery life is not the sole factor that influences buyers’ decision. Rather, there are several elements such as post-processing of sound, driver size calibration etc that would be equally important while determining the future of TWS”, Arnav Mutneja, Director, Quantum Hi-Tech, he said.

Bluei

The TWS the most trending product, but there is some shot comes. It’s a lifestyle product and there are some major problems in TWS like battery, sound quality, comfort and others. The most common problem faced by consumer is battery life. Some consumers disconnect TWS or switched off, instead of putting it on stand-by mode by doing they save the battery.

We similarly research the use of speedy charging developments so that even a more-humble battery with confined power can be charged for just 15 minutes to have 5-6 hours of purpose. The company is working with makers so they do the latest Bluetooth headways and chipsets that consume low battery”, said Akhilesh Chopra Sales and Technology Director at Bluei.
